The government of Ghana has been asked to make sanitary pads free for teenage students who do not have the wherewithal to afford pads during their menstrual cycle.

The CEO of the Hannat Foundation Ghana Ibrahim Ashante Boadu , made the call when he gave 1,000 sanitary pads to teenage students in the Afigya Kwabre North district of the Ashanti Region.

Speaking to Onua News in an interview, Mr. ibrahim Ashante Boadu said, a total of 1000 sanitary pads were given to both the secondary and junior schools in a bid to assist the students.

“We came to Afigya Kwabre North to empower the female students to enlighten them on how to take care of themselves on personal hygiene before, during and after their period.

He asked government to reduce taxes on sanitary pad and make it free for teenage students.

Giving her appreciation, the Afigya Kwabre North Education Director, Madam Ellen Gyekyiwaa Essun said “It’s nice for them to reach out to us because most people do not have this awareness but hopefully with them being here today, I’m sure most people would have learnt one or two things from it.”

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Afigya Kwabre North Hon Kakari Acheamfo) said, the assembly will continue to support the education directorate to help improve teaching and learning.
